For managers, supervisors and small business owners, it’s critical to have a working understanding of the major employment laws, and the best time to ensure that you are well-versed on compliance obligations is before a problem exists.

Managers are the face of the organization with employees and so must behave and make decisions in a legally compliant manner focused on risk management, and have the knowledge to recognize where potential problems exist and when it’s critical to involve the company’s HR department or higher levels of leadership.

This course is designed to provide an overview-level introduction to key federal employment legislation for which anyone who serves in a supervisory capacity needs to be aware. Participants will learn what the major employment laws are, gain insight into compliance obligations, find out how to recognize the types of situations that put the organization and risk and gain knowledge necessary to make informed decisions.

As an overview-level course, this class will provide a broad introduction to key legislation in the area of employment law from the point of view of what supervisors need to know.

Topics covered include:

  • Navigating employment law compliance and related risk management
  • What discrimination really is from a legal perspective
  • What characteristics are protected by law
  • Recognizing retaliation – what it is and the risks it poses
  • Introduction to major provisions of key employment laws (Civil Rights Act (Title VII), Equal Pay Act, Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, Immigration Reform and Control Act, Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Electronic Communications Privacy Act, Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA))

The result is a 360 experience that is highly productive and satisfying.

Who Should Use

Everything DiSC 363 for Leaders is a powerful tool that can have real and lasting impact on leaders in organizations of all sizes. Everything DiSC 363 is appropriate for and effective with leaders at all levels, from emerging high-potential leaders to experienced executives.

Key Features

  • Rather than allowing for truly open-ended comments (which are often unhelpful and sometimes counter-productive), Everything DiSC 363 for Leaders relies on CommentSmart, an exclusive selectable comments feature.
  • With CommentSmart, raters choose from pre-written, highly-tested comments, which saves time for the raters and provides leaders with focused, balanced, constructive and relevant feedback they can actually use.
  • The assessment can be based on feedback from an unlimited number of raters (you specify). Raters can be broken into as many as four categories: direct reports, peers, managers and others.
  • The Everything DiSC 363 profile includes intuitive, easy-to-read visuals and a clear, conversational narrative that  plainly explains the data in a practical and helpful way, making it easy to understand and use in the real world.
  • Rather than being left wondering "now what?" - which is often the case with other 360s - leaders get personalized recommendations in the form of three actionable suggestions they can implement to improve their leadership effectiveness.

Everything DiSC 363 Profile

Each leader receives a comprehensive 22+ page personalized profile report that includes:

  • Clear, meaningful visuals

The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team is an assessment-based learning experience that helps build high-performing teams. Based on Patrick Lencioni’s internationally best-selling leadership fable The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, this powerful program focuses on putting The Five Behaviors™ model into practice. Taking into consideration personalities and preferences to develop a cohesive and productive team takes work, but the payoff can be huge - for your people, the team and the organization.

The program has a simple goal: to help people discover how to build a truly cohesive and effective team. It helps teams understand how they score on key components of the Five Behaviors Model: Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability and Results. Individuals will also discover how their own personality style and the styles of their team members contribute to the team's overall success. You can choose between Everything DiSC® or  All Types™ (MBTI®-compatible) for the personality component of your team's assessments.

Workshop Focus

This program is based on the five behaviors critical to team effectiveness. A productive, high-functioning team exhibits the five behaviors:

  • 1. Establishes Trust between team members
  • 2. Engages in Conflict around ideas
  • 3. Commits to decisions
  • 4. Holds team members Accountable
  • 5. Focuses on achieving collective Results

Key Benefits

There are many advantages to investing in team development. Productive, high-functioning teams that have mastered the five behaviors are able to:

  • Make better, faster decisions
  • Tap into the skills and opinions of all members
  • Avoid wasting time and energy on politics, confusion and destructive conflict
  • Avoid wasting time talking about the wrong issues
  • Avoid revisiting the same topics over and over again due to a lack of buy-in
  • Create a competitive advantage

Value Added

Not just a one-and-done workshop, this program includes a progress report, which allows for an assessment-based team check-up to determine how far the team has come. In addition to initial assessments and facilitation:

  • One team follow-up progress report at an agreed-upon interval based on your team's unique needs is included with your workshop.
  • Additional progress reports, assessments when new team members are added and additional consulting/facilitation services are available as an option.

Delivery

A variety of delivery options are available, and the amount of time needed may vary based on team needs. The optimal time-frame is generally a 3-day workshop, though we also offer 2-day workshops and shorter-term sessions delivered over a period of time. Typical delivery options include:

  • 2 - 3 day off-sites for leadership, management or other team retreats
  • 2 - 3 day workshops, delivered on consecutive days or non-consecutive intervals (such as the first Friday of each month for three months, three Tuesdays in a row, etc.)
  • 1 full day workshop followed by 4 - 5 half-day sessions

Each generation is unique – just as each person is unique – and people from all age groups have the ability to make significant contributions in the modern workplace. Building a positive, productive workforce starts with valuing all generations as a whole, as well as valuing the individual contributors in your organization – regardless of generation. Perfecting the art cross-generational communication in the workplace has to start with knowledge of what key generational differences are and why, and insight into how each generation – and the individuals within it – adds value. Using behavior based interviewing techniques when screening prospective new hires is an excellent way to increase the likelihood of matching the right people with the right jobs. Learn how to ask behavioral interview questions and what to listen for when making hiring decisions.

Do you want to improve your chances of selecting the right people for the right jobs? Many managers spend more time pitching applicants on why they should work for their companies instead of finding out what types of workers the people they're interviewing are likely to be. Using behavior based interviewing techniques when screening prospective new hires is an excellent way to increase the likelihood of matching the right people with the right jobs.

Learning Objectives

Behavior Based Interviewing is designed for those who participate in the process of screening and hiring job applicants. The underlying premise behind this popular and effective interviewing technique is that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. By using behavior based interviewing techniques, managers can get a sense of what applicants have done in the past, what they learned from the consequences of their actions, and how they're likely to behave on the job in the future.

  • What behavioral questions really are
  • How behavioral questions differ from situational ones
