Are you an early career HR professional who is frustrated with having to wait until you have several years of experience to be able to sit for a recognized HR certification? If so, you’re sure to be excited to learn about the new Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR) certification credential! I’m so thrilled about this certification option that I have added an online aPHR exam prep course to my teaching schedule (See https://training.mtibusiness.com/aphr_prep_course for details).
Early-Career HR Certification Solution
The aPHR certification is granted through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI), which is also the certifying body for PHR and SPHR. Rather than being intended for experienced HR professionals who already have several years of experience, the aPHR is especially designed for individuals who are in the early stages of their HR career.
With the aPHR program, early-career HR practitioners can earn a recognized HRCI certification appropriate for their current career level. With so many employers demanding certification for even entry-level HR positions, the aPHR is a great solution for those who want a credential that backs up their level of HR knowledge but don’t yet have enough experience to sit for the SHRM-CP or PHR exam.
The aPHR is a knowledge-based program, which differentiates it from other certifications intended solely for experienced HR practitioners. As a result, it doesn’t have a specific years-of experience requirement; even recent graduates who have not yet worked in the field can sit for the aPHR exam and become certified.
The aPHR exam focuses on mastery of knowledge related to:
- HR Operations
- Recruitment and Selection
- Compensation and Benefits
- Human Resource Development and Retention
- Employee Relations
- Health, Safety, and Security
Who Can Benefit From aPHR Certification?
The aPHR certification is ideal for professionals who are relatively new in or are transitioning to an HR role, recent graduates, and others who hold positions that involve HR-related duties (such as managers, executive directors, administrators, business owners, etc.). It is also a good option for people who want to earn a knowledge-based HR certification before pursuing a more advanced credential.
